One of the common problems associated with storing encrypted passwords in a database is that it's impossible to decrypt or retrieve the original password just given the MD5 hash. In the event of a user losing their password, they're pretty much out of luck. The obvious solution, therefore, is to generate a new password, send this to the user, encrypt it, and then store the encrypted new password in the database.

Simple Authorization Script, or SAS, is a php script which allows for web pages to be password protected without the use of a database. It's simple to install and simple to use. Simple Authorization Script uses php and cookies to password protect web pages. It doesn't require a username, just a password to access the page. PHPLogin Version 0.0.1 is a set of simple code for basic authentication, for example an admin section on your website. It requires PHP & MySQL. You can dowload the code here in ZIP format. There is also a readme which should be read.
