This type of interface provides a huge usability improvement over the alternatives. In fact, when you call 411, the operators use exactly this type of interface to quickly lookup a phone number based on the name of the entity you specify. The alternatives are dropdown boxes, which require painful scrolling, and multi-page narrowing of categories, which requires reading many options and multiple page requests. Imagine how long a directory assistance call would take if the 411 operators used those! Some example of where to use this type of interface would for eBay's category selection, or Yahoo Auto's automobile make and model selection. Alas, they do not use this technique yet.

applet reloads the image from the same web address and refreshes the paint area at a specified rate. If the image's width and height are different from the applet's width and height, they will be automatically scaled. This is particularly suitable for web cam applications

This Java applet lets you choose colors and fonts for your applications. The values of the colors you get, can be used in many programming languages (not only in Java). It will be very helpful for developers and programmers as you can easily try out various combinations of background and foreground (color of the text) colors. You can also try out different fonts in this applet.
To set the foreground color, select the Foreground option. Next, you click the color buttons at the top for common colors (or "R" button to generate random colors). The color of the text will change accordingly. For finer shades you can use the scrollbars to adjust red, green and blue values.
For setting background color follow the same procedure.
Once you are satisfied, get the respective RGB values from the text fields. These values you can pass in the java.awt.Color constructor to get the desired effect for your applications.
For use in html pages you get hex values too. You can also use this applet to convert RGB values to hex and hex values to RGB values.
To try out fonts, just choose different options like font name, size, and style. As soon as you make these choices, the font of the text in the applet will change reflecting your choices.

This java applet randomly presents letters of the alphabet, digits (0 to 100 depending on your choice), different basic colors, and shapes like rectangles, squares, triangles, ovals, circles etc., at an interval of time you can specify in seconds. It is useful for nursery or pre school kids and helps in learning letters of the alphabet, numbers, different colors and shapes like rectangle, square, oval, circle, semicircle, triangle etc.
It is a great teaching tool useful for parents and teachers. Kids will have great fun and learn at the same time.
Note: If the applet is not visible properly, just bring it in completely in view by scrolling, minimize and then restore the browser window.
