Jason's PERL Archive - jacount.pl
9225 Jason's PERL Archive - jacount.pl http://www.ufbs.co.uk/jason/perl/jacount.html To be able to use any perl scripts you will need to have cgi-bin access. Some service providers only allow cgi access to their business customers. So check first.

The first line of any perl script point to the location of the Perl program on the file server which varies on different servers. You will need to contact your service provider for this location and change the first line of the script accordingly.

When you upload the script to your service provider ensure you transfer in ASCII mode as this will convert the file to the correct format. If your pages are on a UNIX server you will need to change the rights to the file using chmod to 755 or -rwxr-xr-x.

Creates daily log files in standard NCSA combined format using server side includes. All you need is access to run cgi scripts on your server and a little bit of common sense. The beauty of this script and why I wrote it is that it creates log files in an accepted standard format (including remote host, date and time, page requested, bytes sent, referer, browser and operating system) so that you can use any standard log analysis program

The log-reader.cgi program is designed to operate as a Perl/CGI program. It reads the Apache access_log file in standard ECLF format, interprets the records in this file, and returns (a) the most popular URL's on your web site and (b) the top TCP/IP addresses of clients who visited your web site.

With this information, you can determine which URL's on your site are popular, and who they appeal to. You can also tell if somebody has been spidering your web site by looking for uncommonly high numbers of hits from one web site address.

A1-Stats allows you to monitor how many people are visiting your site and where they come from. It is easy to install and configure using the auto-configure function. It should not be necessary to make any changes to the code. A1-Stats does not use system log files, so it should be able to run on any system. Full support is provided by means of the bulletin board, or questions can be sent to a1stats@gadnet.com.

A1-Stats is freeware. One, and only one feature has been deactivated in the free version. Although you can delete the statistics for any given file, you cannot delete the historical data for all files.
