Why Perl, but not PHP?
Of course, we will not dispute the fact that PHP is "light" programming language and so easy to learn (That's why anyone using PHP for web development) - everyone like it and we using it as well in our other projects. However, Perl is older and more flexible development tool (and more compliacted) than PHP. And it's a well known fact that Perl a times faster than PHP, especially when running mod_perl.
That's why we've used Perl to create this system - our customers need performance. Especially in background tasks like newsletter sending used in any newsletter script.
