Other links at CGI and Perl > Scripts and Programs > Link Checking
A link-checker checks the validity of all HTML links on a Web site. Most can start at one or more "seed" HTML files, and recursively test all URLs found at that site ("recursively" means when it finds an HTML file, it searches that for links, and so on). This program doesn't follow URLs at other sites, but it does check their existence.

This program allows you to set up a link exchange page with the minimum of effort, as you trade links with other sites. It can be configured to accept all links or to only accept pages that contain a reciprocal link. The list can be displayed randomly or in order of sign-up. You can run a return link check at any time which flags and removes all non corresponding sites. The web based admin area lets you remove and update links.
Key features:-
Admin Area
Automatically checks for reciprocal link
Option to only allow reciprocal linking sites
Function to check reciprocal links and highlight or remove non linkers
Update link info from the admin area
Option for the return link page to have a minimum PageRank

LinkChecker is a web-master's dream come true. It not only takes in a list of links and tells you which ones are bad links, but it gets so specific as to tell you which ones redirect to other pages, which are forbidden access links, which are successful, and which are the old 'File Not Found' pages. The greatness doesn't end there! For you with rather large links lists and don't have time to finish it all (which is a very rare case because of the intense speed of this package) or maybe the system crashes, it supports a resume feature. This is an automatically implemented feature. It uses a DBM DB which enables such blazing fast speed.

fast local link verification: 76,000 documents containing 1.5 million links were verified in 2 hours on a PII 300 with 512 MB RAM running RedHat Linux 6.2 with all web files mounted via NFS over 100 Mbps Ethernet (the 1.3 million local links took 95 minutes to verify -- 230 links per second)
remote link verification and classification by error type
lists all mailto links' email addresses and frequency of use
provides email alerts for any errors found on user- defined "critical pages"
calculates download sizes for critical pages
scans pages for the presence or absence of red flags, user-defined text strings (defined using powerful Perl regular expressions)
runs CGI programs and validates output
full report of all broken links, including the document in which the link was found and the document to which the link was pointing.
