This UNIX Perl console application generates crossword puzzles from a list of words and clues. It's intended to serve as a backend to programs which gather input data from users, then format the resulting puzzle into a human-readable format. This program is the backend for the crossword generator web application I maintain on ClassHelper.org (click link to try out a live version of the generator). Please feel free to download and use it on your own server.

This game is easy to install and customize. All you need is a Unix server with your own cgi-bin.
You can customize the background colour (color in the USA :), text colour and also add your own banner to the top of the pages in the game. Change the title, maximum number, number of guesses, and exit url.
Not only are you giving the visitors to your website a fun game to play but also there is a space at the top of each page for your banner advertising. Also, text and banner advertising can be added to the bottom of each page if you want to, therefore increasing the amount of money you can make from this game again.
The best thing to do is have a play, so scroll down and HAVE A GO.

You read right, every single itty bitty thing is done web based. Simply log onto index.pl and there you go. Unfortunaly, the very first line of code, in some rare cases might need to be changed. If your not sure, most likely you dont have to change it. Currently, this script is in beta stages, it is about 3000 lines long, and in many files. It will soon be much larger with even more features. The expected final release date is early december, though whether it is earlier or later, this is the place to find out.
