7065Free Engineering Software Websitehttp://www.connel.com/freeware/index.shtmlFree Engineering Software Website (FESW). This website has on-line analytical tools and an archive of free PERL programs designed for use on the World Wide Web via the Common Gateway Interface (CGI). These programs are designed to solve mechanical engineering problems in areas such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, economics, and units conversions. I have released some of these programs to the public domain in hopes that it will generate interest in the broader use of the web - particularly by engineers. I believe that we as engineers have not yet recognized the full potential that the web offers. Hopefully, this website will offer some glimpse of the possibilities.CGI and Perl > Scripts and Programs > Financial ToolsOct 10, 2006
The rate is here is set to 16% which is the sales tax rate in Spain, though it can be set to anything if you download and install the script on your own server.)
1003 Secure is an online application created for mortgage companies to accept loan applications online. This software was created to look just like the real 1003 document that mortgage companies have customers fill out when applying for a loan. It was created to run on a secure server using SSL "Secure Socket Layers" The https thing you see on store sites when the little lock shows up locked in your browsers lower left corner. Does 1003Secure actually Encrypt information? No, the server does all that, 1003Secure just makes it possible to send the information to and from the server using SSL completely secure. See most people think that when they see that little lock in the corner their information is safe, in most cases it is, but in some that I have seen it is far from the truth! This program actually detects if it is on a secure server by reading the server software protocal and checking for SSL software (sometimes a secure server will show up as un-secure however, but never the other way around).
PayBackTime is a simple perl/CGI interest loan calculator, similar to "VeryInteresting" and "AffordaBilly" but focused on determining how long it will take to pay off a loan or credit card, given a minimum payment, balance, and interest rate. The results will show the time it will take to pay off the balance with that monthly payment, number of payments, and the total interest the user will end up paying. For illustration purposes, it also shows the same data based on a bi-weekly payment of half the amount of the monthly payment. This is another very simple, yet nice educational tool for showing just how much only a few dollars a month can decrease the time to pay off a balance, and for showing just how much you pay for the privilege of using a credit card and paying the minimum payment. Most people simply don't think about how much they're paying, and this is a nice illustration. Students I've shown this to (and not just students, but most people) are often amazed at both the length of time it will take to pay the balance off, and by the amount of interest they will pay. PayBackTime is a blatant ripoff of the VeryInteresting payment calculator, also available for download from this site.
I'm looking for people to help with making FreePFM a truly secure online finance manager. I've started freepfm-security, a mailing list for discussion of security issues. There is also a forum. If you are interested in helping me with this project me, contact me at mrchrist@users.sourceforge.net.
I've just started freepfm-announce, a low-volume mailing list. I'll use it to announce any changes or service downtimes, so if you're using freepfm, I recommend you join.
FreePFM is a free, web-based personal finance manager written in Perl, using MySQL as a database. It is released under the Gnu Public Licence.
You can see how it works here. Please note that any information you enter is going into a database accessible by me. I will respect your privacy, but the data is there. If you just want to see how it works, try username test, password test.
FreePFM is alpha. Now, it's stable enough that my wife and I use it every day to manage our fianances, but there are many features still I want to add, and much testing to be done before a full release. So use at your own risk, 'cause YMMV.
I have tested FreePFM using Netscape Communicator 4.51 and Mozilla M10, both on Linux. FreePFM requires javascript to function.
SQL-Ledger? is a double entry accounting/ERP system. Accounting data is stored in a SQL database server, for the display any text or GUI browser can be used. The entire system is linked through a chart of accounts. Each item in inventory is linked to income, expense, inventory and tax accounts. When items are sold and purchased the accounts are automatically updated.
Joining mailing list will entitle you
to receive occasional emails informing you of news and
updates to the site and any special offers that may be
of interest to you.
