PayPal MAF (Multiple Additional Fields) is a set of Perl (CGI) scripts which allows you to gather additional information from your customers who purchase your items/services through PayPal at the time of purchase. It enables you to add multiple optional or required fields to your PayPal HTML code and sends you this additional information to your e-mail address.
If you use PayPal to process your sales and need extra information from your customers, then PayPal MAF is what you need.
How it works?
All you have to do is install PayPal MAF on your server, edit your PayPal HTML code following instructions in the readme file (included in download file) and this is it - your customers will have to fill in any required fields you set or decide whether to fill in any optional fields you set. PayPal are better suited to explain what their Instant Payment Notification system is, but in short, it is a backend process (not using a web browser) where their server contacts a script or program on your server and verifies payments and all their details.
There are several reasons why this is very useful, for one it is very secure, because it happens independent of the end users web browser, meaning it's very hard to tamper with. Another use is that a script on your server (like our IPN script) can perform any number of tasks for payments it knows have been made. (We use the script to deliver our scripts when someone buys one, and our version is setup to send the purchaser the correct script (the one they ordered)).
