As far as security is concerned and bogus hit counts, if somebody calls the script from a location which you have not setup to log then don't worry because your not going to get any increased hits - you choose what to log and each page has its own individual hit count for overall ease of use.
As far as administration goes, we didn't want you plunging into the database manually so we created a little page for you to add new pages which get logged, you can even customise the output using templates.
Counter.cgi is a fast loading graph and text counter that displays todays page views, yesterdays page views and the average page views overall. Counter.cgi can track unlimited pages for the one graph. The graph can also be displayed or hidden on any page being tracked.
