Professional ASP.NET Web Services : Asynchronous Programming
4437 Professional ASP.NET Web Services : Asynchronous Programming http://stardeveloper.com/go/0018 To wait or not to wait; that is the question! Whether or not to implement asynchronous processing is one of the fundamental issues that a developer must answer when invoking function calls across process boundaries. Given that the option to invoke an asynchronous call is available, the programmer has to weigh the relative ease of coding synchronous calls with its inherent drawback - when a synchronous call is made, the calling thread is blocked and has to wait until the function completes. In many instances, this is an acceptable shortcoming, as in the case when a program's logic flow should not continue until data is retrieved from a database. Asynchronous processing, on the other hand, allows more parallelism. A thread that initiates an asynchronous call is not blocked and can therefore do almost any computation while the method is in transit. The case for asynchronous processing becomes very compelling in the enterprise computing space where systems need to handle hundreds of thousands of function call requests and synchronicity may become a barrier to scalability. This tutorial will show you how to set up a website using Visual Web Developer (VWD) and create a Master Page for all the pages in the site. Fortunately VWD comes with it's own inbuilt web development server so you don't need Internet Information Services (IIS) to run your website application locally.

Before diving in to programming Message Queuing, this section discusses the basic concepts of messaging and compares it to synchronous and asynchronous programming. With synchronous programming, when a method is invoked, the caller has to wait until the method is completed. With asynchronous programming, the calling thread starts the method that runs concurrently. Asynchronous programming can be done with delegates, class libraries that support asynchronous methods(e.g Web service proxies) or by using custom threads. With both synchronous and asynchronous programming, the client and the server must be running at the same time.

ASP.Net's introduction of the web.config file went a long way to filling the configuration hole we had to deal with in classic ASP. We actually went from having very little (global.asa was the closest thing) to a well-structured, change on the fly XML file. For the most part, the web.config file does the trick fine. However there are some limitations and constraints with using it, which you are probably already aware of. What you might not know is how easy is it to surmount those issues by creating a far more flexible alternative.

One of the common requests in ASP.NET is to submit a form when visitor hit an Enter key. That could be a case if, for example you want to make Login Screen. It is expected that user just hit enter when he insert a password instead to of forcing him to use a mouse to click login button. If you want to make search function on your web site, it is frequently required to give a possiblity to hit enter after you insert a search terms instead of mouse click on a Search button
