Some weeks ago, I was planning to build up a polling site where anyone other than admin should be able to post his/her polls to run on along with the simple voting on currently displaying polls. The task was simple but due to some reasons I couldn’t found any free php/mysql script to perform it. Most scripts were only considering admin to submit the polls and visitors were there for general voting only. Some commercial scripts were having this facility but I was in search of a freeware. So I decided to develop one on my own. At the end I came up with a solution which was based on minimum files to do all this in a quite decent manner. So here I am explaining the whole script so anyone who is looking for same kind of solution may be able to get some help from it. One can download a free copy of script at the end of the tutorial. Seeing this script in action on your site will be a pleasure for me J.

These operate by displaying an image containing a random string. These strings are very hard for computer programs to read, but straightforward for humans. The user must then enter the displayed string correctly in a form field in order to submit the form.
In many cases, the comparison of the two strings (displayed and entered) is carried out AFTER form submission. It would be nicer if it could be carried out BEFORE submission, using Ajax, as part of the normal form validation.
In this little project we do just that. Our form contains an image generated on-the-fly by a PHP routine using PHP's inbuilt GD graphics library.
Before reading through this tutorial, you'll need a little knowledge about the general architecture of Ajax applications. All the required information is in the pages of this site.

Towards the end of 2003, a court case between Microsoft and a small company called Eolas provisionally required changes to the way in which media objects, such as flash and java, were embedded into web pages. The cause of this was a patent filed by Eolas several years earlier.
