This is a cool tutorial. I have thoroughly tested the method outlined below on my flash videos site, HiBot [http://www.hibot.com]. I use it to prevent other webmasters to link to my files. In fact, it will also hide the the source urls to my files.
I'm kind of lazy when it comes to editing HTML. I'd rather use an HTML editor like Front Page then hack the HTML portions out with notepad. The following are some common problems (and in some cases solutions) I've discovered about inserting PHP code within pages that you are going to edit with Front Page.
I will not go into any kind of detail about what AJAX is, or how it works. I do, however, insist that before you continue with this article that you have a clear understanding of the technical workings of AJAX. By this, I mean that you must know what AJAX is in its purest form, and what it does and does not stand for. There is a big diffrence between fancy javascript and AJAX. For that understanding, I refer you here: Build Your Own AJAX Web Applications. This is a great article over at SitePoint written by Matthew Eernisse that covers the basics, as well as goes through creating a sample application. This should more than prepare you for this article.
This is actually a real simple operation and thus this tutorial is also very simple, so you should have your user activity tracking in no time. Today we are just going to look at how to find out who's on your cakephp site, where they came from, which models and actions they are using and what browser they are using to do all this. We won't discuss how to display all the results here, that will be Part 2 of this tutorial so for now if you wish to view your results why not use PHPMyAdmin or WebYog or something so you can see the results - For purpose of this tutorial I will be using PHPMyAdmin to show you the results.
