I've been programming some heavy Flash and PHP integration, lately. I tend to use XML as the method for moving data back and forth. The Flash loadVars class is cool, but when it comes to moving lots of stuff, I like the portability and extensibility of XML. Interoperability with future applications will be assured using XML, IMHO
Fedafi is an RSS generator that lets websites without RSS create RSS feeds, manage them, market the feed at news aggregators such as Technorati and track subscribers and clicks on outbound links
This parser was setup to give you the results of a simple RSS feed in a highly customizable format. You will be able to control the look and feel of the feed so that it blends seamlessly in your website.
Right now Jonah includes a backend which will fetch RDF/RSS/syndicated XML site summary or headline files, store them locally, parse them, and generate (and save) html from them. My.Netscape style RSS files and My.UserLand XML storylist files seem to both work. The frontend is extremely simplistic - it lists the available channels and lets you view the generated html for them. There's a really long list of channels available here: http://www.syndic8.com/genfeed.php?Format=ocs.
