Due to the 100's of emails I've received in the past few weeks regarding the release of LiveChat 3.0, I felt the need to post the status of the release of v3.0.
The release has been severely delayed due to the need to get various areas of Happytech.net online. After this week I should be in a good enough position to pick-up coding on 3.0 again. Since many of you have shown such great interest in this release, I have decided to release a beta release. Which will probably be the middle of next week ASP > Scripts and Components > Chat Scripts Oct 10, 2006

ASPMultiChat .NET is a HTML chat software. It's compatible with the most popular modern browsers like Internet Explorer 5.5+, Netscape Navigator 7+, Opera 7+. No client-side Java-applets, Plug-ins or ActiveX needed. Server-side part of software is written in C#. Client-side part written in Java Script and uses DHTML features of browser. Client-side scripts use sofisticated algorithm to provide continues, non-flickering refresh of chat board. ASPMultiChat can work as standalone system or be incorporated into an existing ASP.NET application (either C# or VB). Relational database is used to store user properties. To provide very quick response, all short-term data is buffered in variables whenever it possible. Since all messages are buffered in memory (from time to time stored in temporary files), ASPMultiChat is much faster than similar products which use database for this purpose. ASPMultiChat is able to serve simultaneously up to 3000 online users on P4-2.4GHz with 50% CPU usage*.

This is fun. It's a chat application, built with HTML, ASP, and a dash of client-side JavaScript. No software to install, no upgrades to download; a totally thin client.
The key to making this so simple is the use of Application variables. Not only is data storage as simple as reading and writing from the Application() collection, but since everything on the server is in memory, processing is lightning-fast.
I plan to add on to this one, so check back regularly.
