5. Forum Spam
It would appear that after about 11 months my forum has finally made it onto the spammers radar. I am now receiving at least one spam per day on the forum. This is a bit of a pain because now I have to manually clean the entries and delete the user account and inform their ISP etc, etc, etc. I don't ban them based on IP address because most of them are using non static IP Addresses and there is always the danger that I block a legitimate user by performing this. One thing that is rather clever or sneaky of them is that they wait until at least one other legitimate user has registered and posted on my forum before utilising the account that was registered a while ago. This means that the latest member to the forum is not the spammer. It also means that if / when they register multiple accounts at the same time and only use one then the others will be deleted because the IP address of both account signups matches. This is an unexpected bonus in my view as cleaning the forum has just been made a little easier Oh Well I had better get back to forum cleaning now.
