I walked into a local store the other day to spend some money; I wanted to buy a gift for my husband of a new beer brewed in Scotland - I had been told that the store carried it, but I couldn't find it at all. So I decided to ask the assistant to show me where on the shelves it was stored - and I got the grumpiest, most sullen response. What a disappointment - it really put me off and I reluctantly bought the beer while vowing never to step into the store again, unless it was unavoidable. As I was leaving the store, a similar thing happened to another customer - who was deeply unhappy about his treatment.
How many companies lose sales and goodwill because of poor customer service? More particularly, how many companies with bricks and mortar stores as well as online stores could vastly improve their chances of success by taking active steps to give great customer service?
