11341HouseSpider was developed by Keith L. Jacksonhttp://housespider.sourceforge.net/HouseSpider is an Java applet that adds indexing and search capability to your web site. It may also run as a stand-alone application. HouseSpider can search by two methods, by spidering through your site or by searching a cached index file. Spider-searching is slow, but very easy to set up and requires no maintenance. Cache-searching requires only a little more attention to set-up and is very fast, sometimes even faster than server-hosted cgi programs. HouseSpider also supports compression (in zip-format) of the index file. HouseSpider has 100% support for i18n (internationalization). It is already translated to several languages. Finally, you can write your website using any charset - HouseSpider can handle it. And best of all - it is free!Java > Applets > Searching > Site SearchOct 11, 2006Keith L. Jackson and Hans Fr. This applet allows you to search all the pages on "The Babbage Home Page".
Please enter search text (e.g morse code) and then press the "Search" button. The radio-buttons at the bottom of the applet can be used to make the search case-sensitive or case-insensitive.
The search will then start and any matches will be displayed in the list box. Double click on an entry and the page will be displayed

Many of you may be wondering, why do I have a java applet if the JavaScript is the best thing since sliced bread? Well the answer is pretty simple actually, many people like the feel of an applet. It has it's advantages, how about I list them for you now
Want your own search engine - here it is. PersonalSearchallows you to create a search engine for you own site. You decide what keywordsit should respond to and what URLs are included in the engine. I use itto let people search my site for keywords - you cannot provide links toother servers.
You do not need to have your own server or use cgi-scripts. All youneed to have in order to use it is a homepage.
It also offers 100% control of the search abilities. This requires fromyou a little work: for every document you must specify a location(URL),a title and some keywords (keywords are not required). This informationis stored in a file, which the applet reads from. Now you have the optionof adding comments in the file. The comments will be ignored when searched. This makes it possible to easily administer large sites - eg by addingcomments for each directory
afSearchlink can be included on any html webpage and does not require a Java server. A web site visitor uses the search engine in a similar way to other Internet search engines, once a list is returned the links can then be followed with a single click over the appropriate link name. The links themselves are stored and formatted in a text file, this allows easy editing and fast access. Like many popular search engines Searchlink allows for "all word" or "any word" searches. These keywords are compared with the keywords you supply when creating the links text file
