What makes it different from the many other templating engines out there, is that it's been designed to have lots of built-in smarts about what a "typical" informational website needs in the way of functionality: metadata support, dynamic index generation from metadata, automatically-generated sitemaps and navigational aids, user-defined tags, and support for non-HTML input and output -- and, of course, embedded Perl code. ;)

Cog is a themeable and modularised intranet homepage written in perl. The aim is to make almost every aspect configurable via the web interface to give the user the freedom of choice. Many users each with a separate configuration and password are supported. Applets such as search, todo, news and links are included along with several themes.

It's currently on version 0.4 (it works, and it supports even more cool features). There's a development version out right now, named 0.54. It's changed somewhat, so you'll have to do a little work to get it to work. There's a world of difference internally between the two versions, giving us much more flexibility at the cost of a little more upfront work.

The short answer is "we don't". We make money deploying software solutions, and when that requires us to create new software, there's no real sense in our sitting on it after our project work is done. Where ever possible, we release the code to the commons under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

There are many graphic free and proprietary HTML editors at the moment. I don't use them, because in my opinion the HTML hacker must have the full control about the commands which are used. An other reason against using them is that their output promises a pixel exact layout which fails with most browsers.
This is why I always did write my web pages in a standard text editor (for me the vim 5.3). But this is some how difficult and hard to manage for bigger projects.
So my idea was to create a tool which helps the webmaster of complex web pages, but which allows the full control about the generated source. The result of this idea was makeHTML which I hope will be a useful tool for you.
