Yet another framework was developed almost a year before Ajax was made. Direct Web Remoting or DWR was developed by Joe Walker in 2004. Slowly, it gathered following from different developers and its popularity increased exponentially the next year when Ajax was first introduced to the public. Today, it is one of the highly discussed frameworks among developers.

You can practically make some changes in the application while seeing the updated version through the admin. You can even integrate other applications that were used with scaffolding and see how they work together.

XOAD used to be called NAJAX. With the changed name, the framework came out with better functionality. As a natural behavior of any server side-framework, XOAD has the ability to translate the PHP into JavaScript, therefore enabling an Ajax based website even without the knowledge of JavaScript.

On the other hand, here is Clean (actual framework name) Ajax. Clean is another lightweight technology wherein you might end up developing a widget. But Clean Ajax framework has clearly indicated that they are not, above all things, a widget-only application.

Seam – Developed by JBoss, this framework was developed by the said company to cater to the trend of Web 2.0 sites. This framework is the combination of two known frameworks for Java: EJB3 or Enterprise Javabeans and JSF or JavaServer Faces.
Spring Web Flow – admittedly the name is rather cute. But if anything could be described for this application, it is not cute. Spring Web Flow is one of the most powerful Java frameworks if you want to develop an Ajax based application.

When debugging the application, Ajax developers knows that they have to go for the Server-side functions as well as the client side. Fortunately, client side debugging tools are common. Firefox even has a small add-on that has the ability to debug Client-Side functions of Ajax. Just one run with the application, developers will know if there are bugs found in the system.

There are individuals who are already proficient in JavaScript long before it even become integrated to Ajax. Because of this, they were able to move ahead of figuring out how Ajax can be built in a simpler manner. Frameworks after frameworks have been released along with the battery of libraries that provide pre-built functions to developers. All the developers need to do is to change some things in the current library.
